This painting, a part of my ongoing exploration of Tefila (prayer), carries with it a deep, personal resonance in light of the tragic events of October 7th. In the face of unimaginable suffering, it became abundantly clear that, in moments of darkness, we can rely only on Hashem. This work is an expression of unwavering faith—a reflection of the resilience and strength that comes from turning to G.od, even in the most trying of times.
Inspired by the words of a Chassidic Rebbe, who spoke of his faith enduring through the horrors of the Holocaust, this painting portrays the profound ability to connect with God even in moments of despair. The Rebbe’s reminder that Hashem’s presence could still be felt in the gas chambers speaks to the unshakeable belief in divine providence, even amidst extreme suffering. This sentiment echoes the spirit of Tefila, where prayer becomes both an anchor and a lifeline, a way to connect with a higher power when the world around us feels broken.

In a world captivated by appearances, Lo Taturu offers a visual meditation on inner clarity and moral strength. Inspired by the Torah’s directive “Lo Taturu”—do not be led astray by your eyes or your heart—this artwork confronts the tension between instinct and insight, desire and discernment.
The heart, long regarded as the seat of emotion and will, is easily swayed by external allure. But Lo Taturu urges us to look deeper. It invites us to become investigators of our own impulses, to illuminate emotion with the light of reason, and to cultivate what the sages called a lev chacham—an “intelligent heart.” This is not a heart devoid of feeling, but one that perceives with clarity and chooses with wisdom.

The architecture steps back. Warm mineral plaster with subtle rosy undertones creates spatial containment without declaration. Soft cove lighting extends the envelope upward. An eucalyptus bench grounds the vertical composition.
